Experience

Mary Nakata is a private practice psychoanalytic psychotherapist and analyst who has worked with individuals, couples, families and groups in West Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Brentwood since 1975. She has worked as a staff psychologist at UCLA, School of Medicine in the Center for Enhancement, Education and Research and at the Pritikin Longevity Program where she treated individuals, ran groups and developed programs and provided health education in Mind and Body Medicine. She was the clinical director for the Live Today Program at the Neuropsychiatric Institute, UCLA, a program for people with life threatening illnesses. In addition, to her private practice, she is currently treating patients at the Psychological Care and Healing Center, a residential and day treatment program.

Education and Training

Mary Nakata earned her Doctorate in Psychoanalysis at the Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis in 2007, where she is currently a member, a supervising and training analyst and active on many committees there, including the Candidate Progression Committee, Admissions Committee and Extension Committee. She earned her Masters in Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, at UCLA, in l973, and was licensed as a Marriage, Family Counselor, in 1975. In addition, she is a certified Enneagram teacher in the oral tradition, having received her certification in 1991.

Supervision

She trained and supervised first and second year graduate psychology interns at UCLA at Fernald School, a school for educationally and emotionally disturbed students. She has supervised licensed and unlicensed Marriage and Family Therapy interns, working toward acquiring clinical hours required for Licensure.
